Vblockade

Frequently asked questions

Everything about how Vblockade blocks ads and trackers, protects your privacy, and stays entirely on your device.

The basics
What is Vblockade?

Vblockade is a fast, on-device content blocker for Chrome and Edge (Manifest V3). It blocks ads and trackers, protects against malware and phishing domains, hides cookie banners, defeats anti-adblock walls, and strips tracking parameters from links — all locally, with no accounts and no telemetry.

Is it really free? What's the catch?

Yes, it's free, and there's no catch. Vblockade has no ads, no "pro" upsell that sells your data, and no telemetry. We don't run servers that receive your browsing data, so there's nothing to monetize about you.

Does Vblockade collect my data?

No. We collect nothing — no accounts, no analytics, no identifiers. Vblockade reads network requests and page structure locally, in real time, only to block and hide unwanted content. None of it is logged, stored remotely, or transmitted.

The only network requests Vblockade makes are periodic downloads of public filter lists (non-executable rule data). See the full privacy policy.

Does it work on Microsoft Edge?

Yes. Vblockade is a Chromium extension, so it runs on Chrome, Edge, and other Chromium-based browsers.

Blocking & YouTube
Why do I still see ads on YouTube?

YouTube ad blocking is off by default and opt-in. It tampers with YouTube's player and can occasionally break playback or trigger YouTube's "confirm you're not a bot" check, so we let you decide.

To enable it: open the Vblockade popup (or Settings) and turn on "Block ads on YouTube (experimental)". With it off, YouTube plays normally.

An ad or element wasn't blocked. How do I hide it?

Use the element picker: open the popup and click "Block an element on this page", then click the ad or clutter you want gone. It hides immediately, and your rule is saved so it stays hidden on future visits. Use the ▲ Parent button if you need to select a larger container.

A website is broken. How do I fix it?

Open the popup and turn on "Allow on {this site}" — that disables all blocking for that one site while leaving it active everywhere else. If you think a specific rule is at fault, please let us know so we can improve it.

What are "tracking parameters" and why remove them?

When you click a link, marketers often append identifiers to the URL — like utm_source, fbclid, or gclid — to track where you came from. Vblockade strips these from the address before the page loads, so you land on a clean URL. You can toggle this in the popup or Settings.

Control & customization
What does "Clean data" do?

It's a one-click privacy reset that clears browser data you choose — cache, cookies, local storage, history, downloads, or form data — over the last 24 hours or 7 days. You pick exactly what to clear and confirm before anything is removed. Clearing cookies signs you out of sites. It never touches your Vblockade settings.

Can I add my own filter rules?

Yes. In Settings → Custom filters, add rules in EasyList/Adblock Plus syntax, one per line — for example ||ads.example.com^ to block a domain, or example.com##.banner to hide an element. Rules you create with the element picker also appear here.

Do the blocklists update automatically?

Yes — Vblockade refreshes its filter subscriptions automatically about twice a day. You can also force an update anytime with "Update blocklists" in the popup. You choose which lists are enabled in Settings → Filter subscriptions.

Trust & support
Why does Vblockade need access to all websites?

A content blocker has to be able to act on any site you visit, because ads, trackers, and malicious requests can appear on any domain. Vblockade uses that access only locally — to block requests and hide unwanted content — and never sends your browsing anywhere.

Is Vblockade open source?

No, the source is not published. However, Vblockade runs no remote code — a strict content-security policy blocks eval and any externally hosted scripts, and only non-executable filter-list data is ever downloaded.

How do I rate or review it?

Ratings are handled by the Chrome Web Store, not inside the extension. If Vblockade helps you, a review on its Chrome Web Store page genuinely helps — there's a "★ Rate" link in the popup and Settings too.

How do I report a bug or an ad that got through?

Email info@vibhumit.com with the site and what you saw. Since we collect no telemetry, your reports are how we find and fix issues.

How do I uninstall Vblockade?

Right-click the Vblockade toolbar icon and choose "Remove from Chrome", or go to chrome://extensions, find Vblockade, and click Remove. All of its local data is removed with it.
